GROSSLY DECAYED TOOTH

If more than half of tooth structure is lost a core build-up (replaces the missing coronal tooth structure) and post (to hold the core) may be required to restore such teeth. The extent of tooth loss may necessciate core build up or tooth removal .

In serious cases of tooth decay, the tooth may be removed to prevent the spread of infection from a dental abscess. Losing certain teeth can affect the shape and function of surrounding teeth and the TM Joint , so the dentist may have to replace the tooth with a partial denture, bridge or implant.
